Reba’s still juggling an overloaded life

Long ago, Reba McEntire received some astute maternal analysis.
“Momma always said I had the attention span of a 2-year-old,” she told the Television Critics Association.
That hasn’t changed much, now that she’s 69. It will be evident Tuesday (Oct. 22), when NBC displays her as:
— A comedy actress. At 8 p.m., it reruns the opener of “Happy’s Place” (shown here with Belissa Escobeda and McEntire) following its debut at 8 p.m. Friday (Oct. 18).

A friend spurred Lithgow’s thundering heroics

If you move into a new place, a good friend will give you a floral arrangement or a fruit plate.
A great one will give you a horse.
The latter describes Rex Linn. “I bought some land in Montana,” John Lithgow said. “He told me, ‘You can’t own that land and not have a horse.”
The result is reflected 30 years later, when “The Old Man” starts its second season, at 10 p.m. Sept. 12 on FX. There is Lithgow (shown here, left, with Jeff Bridges) – not usually an action hero – riding a horse and wielding a rifle. “It’s perfect heaven,” he said. Read more…

Summer heat brings cool Christmases?

It seems so easy, making all these Christmas movies.
They almost have the same cheery backdrops, the same perky heroine. She’s often expected to return to her home town and/or to squabble with a handsome guy who turns out to be OK after all.
Still, these aren’t that easy to make … starting with the weather. “You always do a Christmas movie in July,” John Schneider said. “As you always do a beach movie in November or December.”
His movie – “Reba McEntire’s Christmas in Tune” (8 p.m. Friday on Lifetime), shown here – has more music than most, along with some of the brightest colors this side of animation. It was also a rare case of a holiday film shot in the South. Read more…
