1) “Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light” opener, 9 p.m., PBS. “Wolf Hall” was the potent story of Henry VIII (Damian Lewis, shown here) and Thomas Cromwell (Mark Rylance), an ex-blacksmith who was his fixer. A decade latter, this excellent sequel wraps Cromwell’s story. After executing Anne Boleyn, Henry covets a marriage to Jane Seymour (Kate Phillips).
2) “Marie Antoinette” season-opener, 10 p.m., PBS. After a two-year gap, this returns. Marie remains good-hearted, but non-frugal. Her husband has become a diligent king, surrounded by schemers. And a new character sparks the season. A real-life person, she’s a pickpocket and scam artist with a fringe claim to noble status and a false claim she knows the queen.
3) “The Americas,” 7 and 8 p.m., NBC. First is a rerun of the intriguing “Frozen North” hour. Then come stunning views of the Andes: A frog freezes solid each night, then revives …. A mama bear leads cubs down a 10,000-foot peak …. A “superbloom” returns after a decade …. And a toxic salt lake brings a dancing/mating ritual of 40,000 flamingos.
4) Basketball and more, CBS. College tournament games are at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m. ET. That could nudge primetime back a bit in some time zones. It will be “60 Minutes” at about 7 p.m., “Tracker” (a New Orleans case with a dark-magic element) at 8, “Watson at 9 and “Equalizer” at 10.
.
5) ALSO: The basketball tourney continues on cable – 6 and 8:30 p.m. ET, TNT; 7 and 9:30, TBS; and 7:45, TruTV. And “Dark Winds” (9 p.m., AMC) has a powerful episode that starts with a discovery of a body that Joe hoped would stay hidden. Meanwhile, he discovers a cult and his ex-deputy (now patrolling the border) finds fresh danger.
