The Academy Awards will have a different approach to music this year.
Gone are the separate performances – some good, some bad – of the five nominated songs. Instead, the show will have what it calls music celebrating filmmaking and its legends.
Performing that night (7 p.m. ET Sunday, March 2, on ABC) are:
— Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the stars of “Wicked,” which is nominated for best picture. (Erivo will also host this year’s Tony awards.)
— Two people who, ironically, have shows competing with the Oscarcast. Queen Latifah also stars in “The Equalizer,” at 10 p.m. Sundays on CBS. Lalisa Manobal (shown here)is making her acting debut in “White Lotus,” at 9 p.m. Sundays on HBO; she’s also in the South Korean girl group Blackpink, using the name Lisa, and will perform solo at the Oscars.
— Also, Raye, Doja Cat and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
