Keeping things steady: CBS has flurry of renewals

In a TV world where shows can vanish quickly, there’s some good news:
CBS has renewed nine more of its shows for next season. Also, PBS has renewed “Miss Scarlet” for a sixth season.
The CBS moves follow four previous renewals, plus three new shows. Two of the new ones are spin-offs (including “Sheriff Country,” shown here); this is not a network for chaotic change. Read more…

Neither is PBS. “Miss Scarlet” had a can’t-win season, colliding with the Grammys, Super Bowl and more; now it will be back.
The CBS renewals bear no big surprises. Perhaps there might have been some doubts about “Hollywood Squares” or “NCIS: Sydney” or “NCIS Origins,” but not many. Also renewed are “Tracker,” Elsbeth,” “NCIS, “Fire Country,” “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” and – in a rare, two-season pickup – “Ghosts.”
Previously renewed were “Matlock,” “FBI,” “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race.” The only primetime shows still unmentioned are “The Neighborhood,” “Where’s Poppa,” “FBI: International,” “FBI: Most Wanted,” “SWAT,” “The Equalizer” and several non-fiction shows.
The new shows ordered by CBS are:
— “Sheriff Country,” a “Fire Country” spin-off starring Morena Baccarin (shown here).
— “Boston Blue.” Donnie Wahlberg continues his character (Danny Reagan, a police detective) from “Blue Bloods,” which has finished its 14-year run.
— “The Road.” It’s a singing competition produced by Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”) and Blake Shelton.
