1) “The Americas” debut, 7 and 8 p.m., NBC. The filmmakers are British, but the narrator is Tom Hanks and the subject is purely New World. That starts with gorgeous hours on the Atlantic Coast and in Mexico. There are exotic visions of swarming fish, swooping eagles and glowing fireflies, plus quirky fun with raccoons (shown here) cavorting in cities and suburbs.
2) “Suits LA” opener, 9 p.m., NBC. The “Suits” creator has a new show viewing entertainment lawyers and starring Stephen Amell (“Arrow”). It’s a lot like the old show … which isn’t necessarily a good thing. Characters scheme constantly, creating thick webs of lies. It’s slickly concocted, but has few hints of human involvement.
3) “Grosse Point Garden Society,” 10 p.m., NBC. “Desperate Housewives” first brightened Sundays, 20 years ago. Now one of its writers has created a similar show, with ordinary folks in high-stakes crises. This time, someone has been killed, but we don’t know whom. AnnaSophia Robb plays a sweet-spirited teacher, surrounded by chaos.
4) “All Creatures Great and Small” season-finale, 9 p.m., PBS. Here, a bit late or very early, is the Christmas episode. Since it’s set during World War II, there are deeply moving moments. That’s preceded at 7 p.m. by the “Movies For Grownups” awards. At 10, “Funny Woman” has a fairly good season-finale, with Sophie facing two personal crises.
5) “Mayfair Witches,” 9 p.m., AMC and AMC+, repeats at 11:11. TV has had epic betrothals, from a Moldavian massacre (“Dynasty”) to a Red Wedding (“Game of Thrones”). Now this richly crafted tale – continuing next week, in the season-finale – has a dilly. It’s in the Irish countryside, with confusion and deception, including (at times) who is in which body.
