1) “American Masters,” 9 p.m., PBS. Hazel Scott (shown here) was a piano prodigy at 4, a Juilliard student at 8, a nightclub performer in her teens, then a movie co-star. At 22, she led a three-day strike on a movie set; at 29, she had a DuMont Network TV show … until McCarthyism intervened. Here is a passionate profile, spiced by clips of a great singer and pianist.
2) “Happy’s Place,” 8 p.m., NBC. After some silliness, the show finds a way to nudge Bobbie (Reba McEntire) into a tattoo parlor, with fairly funny results. That’s followed by a rerun that puts her in a fishing lodge with Emmett (Rex Linn, McEntire’s real-life mate). Their scenes are quite good; the ones back at her bar are mostly frantic and unfunny.
3) “NCIS: Sydney,” 8 p.m., CBS. After last week’s detour – with a vintage pirate ship and large plot holes – the show bounces back. It’s an emotional episode that requires Dr. Penrose (Australian actor William McInnes) to work with an old colleague.
4) “Fire Country,” 9 p.m., CBS. As the possibility of an avalanche looms, Bode and Jake try a rescue. That’s followed by “SWAT,” with Alfaro tackling a dangerous undercover job with ties to his past.
5) “Surface” season-opener, Apple TV+. Grasping for her memory, Sophie enters London’s high-society. That’s part of a busy streaming week, with movies (“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” on Paramount+, Robert De Niro’s “”Zero Day” on Netflix) and series. It’s the first season of Pixar’s “Win or Lose” on Disney+, the third of “Reacher” on Amazon Prime.
