Week’s top-10 for Feb. 17: NBC retools its Sundays

1) “The Americas” and “Suits LA,” 7 and 9 p.m. Sunday, NBC. After lots of football and specials, NBC remakes Sundays. 1) “The Americas” and “Suits LA,” 7 and 9 p.m. Sunday, NBC. After lots of football and specials, NBC remakes Sundays. Then comes a new show from the creator of “Suits.” This one focuses on entertainment lawyers and stars Stephen Amell (“Arrow”).

2) “Grosse Point Garden Society,” 10 p.m. Sunday, NBC. It’s been 20 years since “Desperate Housewives” first brightened Sundays. Now one of its writers has created similar fun, with ordinary folks in high-stakes crises. This time, someone has been killed, but we don’t know whom. AnnaSophia Robb plays a sweet-spirited teacher, with schemers nearby.

3) “Good Cop/Bad Cop” debut, 9 p.m. Wednesday, CW. Here’s the perfect show to follow CW’s clever “Wild Cards.” In a small town, the police chief has two detectives: His daughter (Leighton Meester) has great people skills, his son (Luke Cook) has none, but both have sharp minds. This opener ripples with wit and even humanizes the criminals.

4) “Thomas Jefferson,” 8-10 p.m. today through Wednesday, History. In a crowd, Jefferson was shy; his inaugural address was barely audible. But in writing, he was eloquent … and deceptive. He wrote of freedom, but failed to free his slaves, including his lover and companion. This can’t quite match Ken Burns’ Jefferson profile, but it’s well worth seeing.

5) “The Bachelor,” 8-10 p.m. today, ABC. Twn women remain, including a lawyer, a nurse and a tech engineer who doubles as a model. Grant Ellis takes them to Madrid, for a week that includes a bullfighter and bull riding. (The latter involves a mechanical bull.) At 8, that faces “Voice” auditions on NBC and a CBS hour viewing the history of Blacks on TV.

6) “Doc,” 9 p.m. Tuesday, Fox. Struggling to remain a doctor, despite losing eight years of memories, Amy has had obstacles: Richard (now her boss) and Sonja have adamantly opposed her. Now we see their human side. Richard (Scott Wolf) faces a problem at home; Sonja encounters a man from her past. This hour (the seventh of 10) packs potent emotion.

7) “American Masters,” 9 p.m. Friday, PBS. When Hazel Scott moved with her mother from Trinidad to Harlem, she was 4 and a piano prodigy. By 8, she studied at Juilliard; in her teens, she performed in a nightclub. Turning 30, she had summer TV show. Outspoken about civil rights, she faced McCarthyism and moved abroad. Here’s a vivid profile.

8) “NAACP Image Awards,” 8 p.m. Saturday, CBS and BET. A busy night includes nominees for best movie — “Wicked,” “Bob Marley: One Love,” “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” “Piano Lesson.” “The Six Triple Eight.” There are TV comedies (“Abbott Elementary,” “Poppa’s House,” “The Neighborhood,” “The Upshaws,” “How to Die Alone”); dramas and much more.

9) Sunday dramas. One starts its season (“1923,” on Paramount+) and two (on PBS) end theirs. At 9 p.m., “All Creatures Great and Small” has a solemn – and deeply moving – look at a wartime Christmas. At 10, “Funny Woman” starts with one crisis (Sophie fumes about learning her dad isn’t her biologic father) and ends with another, but is fairly bright in-between.

10) ALSO: Opposite series debut on streamers: On Wednesday, Disney+ has Pixar’s gentle “Win or Lose,” with middle-school softball players and the grown-ups nearby. On Thursday, Amazon Prime starts a season of “Reacher” action. Also: Robert De Niro is an ex-president in “Zero Day” (Thursday, Netflix); “Surface” starts its second season Friday on Apple TV+.
