1) “Wild Cards” season-opener, 8 p.m, CW. Last season was filled with clever scams, ending with the best: Max helped Ellis nab the crooks, but stole the $33 million Faberge egg. Now, oddly, the show sheds its glam-scam touch. There are laborious scenes reuniting the duo, followed by a so-so case that has Ellis undercover (shown here) amid street-racers. Stick around; it will get better.
2) “Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials,” 8 p.m., CBS; and “Inside the NFL,” 9 p.m., CW. Here are two sides of the Super Bowl experience: First, the ads; there’s a countdown of the funniest of all time, with viewers deciding between the final two. Then the game itself. Bill Belichick (head coach of six champions) and others discuss what to expect.
3) “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test” finale, 8-10 p.m., Fox. So far, 11 people – many of them tough athletes — have dropped out. That leaves two football players (Cam Newton, Golden Tate), a surfer (Alana Blanchard) and two influencer/reality types (Kayla Nicole and Brody Jenner).
4) “Shifting Gears,” 8 p.m., ABC. We’ve heard a lot about Jimmy, the rocker Riley ran off with, forming a shaky marriage. Now he’s here and trying to win her back, while her dad fumes. That’s followed by “Abbott Elementary,” with the teachers getting competitive during the science fair.
5) “Nova,” 9 p.m., PBS. We’re getting used to the idea that birds are related to dinosaurs. That leads to questions of how they survived the meteor crash that killed their bigger kin. It’s an interesting subject, but one that sometimes gets lost in tangled science-speak.
