1) “Chicago Fire” (shown here), “Chicago Med,” “Chicago P.D.,” 8-11 p.m., NBC. One mega-story sprawls across all three hours. Switching the shows’ usual order, it starts with a gas-main explosion causing cave-ins; doctors and firefighters work at the site. Then “Med” treats victims (including firefighters) at the hospital. At 10, “P.D.” scrambles to find who’s responsible.
2) “Nova,” 9 p.m., PBS. LaGuardia Airport faced extreme challenges. It’s old (opened in 1939), cramped (680 acres on Long Island), but has 30 million passengers a year. Long-derided, it had an $8 billion makeover involving engineers, designers and 30 contractors. This terrific documentary follows the process, focusing on both the planners and workers.
3) “All American” season-opener, 8 p.m., CW. Much has changed since this started six years ago. Spencer is a pro … Jordan, his former quarterback, is a high school coach … Jordan’s wife Layla has an upscale nightclub and her friend Coop prepares for law school. Now a likable player and his dad arrive. It’s a solid start, before the show moves to Mondays.
4) “Hollywood Squares,” 8 p.m. Wednesdays, CBS. After a few Thursdays, this becomes key to a games night. Originally slated for 10 p.m., it instead starts the night; “Price is Right” and “Raid the Cage” move to 9 and 10 p.m.
5) “The Flip Off” opener, 8-10 p.m., HGTV. It’s been a busy decade for Christina Haack – five TV series, two divorces, a separation and success as a designer. Now she competes with Tarek El Moussa (her first husband), in a challenge to buy and fix a house. Parts of this seem contrived, but one face-to-face moment feels real and quietly involving.
