2) “Penn & Teller’s 50th Anniversary Special,” 8 p.m., CW. Back on Aug. 19, 1974, this duo debuted its brilliant magic act. Now, seven months early, it celebrates its golden anniversary. It also showcases other magicians and introduces a two-act trick.

3) “Masters of Illusion” season-opener, 9 p.m., CW. This show often gives us one new half-hour plus a rerun. For its opener, however, it apparently has a new hour. Dean Cain introduces the magicians – Adam Wylie, Lucy Darling, Ivan Amodei, Maxence Vire, Alex Ramon, Murray Sawchuck, Anna DeGuzman and Joseph Reohm.

4) “NCIS: Sydney,” “Fire Country” and “SWAT,” 8-11 p.m., CBS. Here are reruns of three high-stakes episodes: JD’s son is kidnapped … Gabriela has her wedding day … and the city has a black-out. Two of the shows return to new episodes next week, with “Sydney” a week later.

5) “Star Trek: Section 31,” Paramount+. In a long prologue, we see a young Philippa, in the moments that cemented her power and her ruthless persona. Then we see her (Michelle Yeoh) nowadays, semi-reformed and on a vital mission. The movie is filmed and acted with strong style … which becomes a monotone, with no room for hints of humanity.
