1) “Miss Scarlett” (shown here), 8 p.m., PBS. Last week, Eliza (a detective) argued with the chief inspector (who dislikes detectives). Still, they solved a case. Now he has a job for her, but not what she expects. In a smartly written hour, she manages to wedge into another case.
2) “All Creatures Great and Small,” 9 p.m., PBS. This took an abrupt turn in last week’s season-opener. An illness meant James can’t continue to be a World War II pilot. He’s back home, trying to fill all the duties of dad and veterinarian; in one case, that leaves a major (and funny) oversight. There are more stories, in a warm and entertaining hour.
3) “Football.” The pro playoffs have the Rams and Eagles at 3 p.m. ET on NBC and Ravens-Bills at 6:30 on CBS. (That scuttles CBS’ plan for a “Tracker” rerun; instead, “Hollywood Squares” follows the game.) The winners will face Saturday’s winners, for spots in the Super Bowl.
4) “Mayfair Witches,” 9 p.m. Sunday, AMC. Yes, this is about black magic, murder and other eerie stuff. But it’s richly filmed and skillfully written and acted. Lasher, a demon, is now in human form and has killed three Mayfair women. Dr. Rowan Mayfair plans to gather the clan and kill him. Her plan is iffy and unfolds slowly, but the final minutes are powerful.
5) Movies. At 7 p.m., CW has “Bring It On” (2000), with Kirsten Dunst as a new cheerleading coach. At 8, TNT has the epic (and richly crafted) “Black Panther” (2018). At 8:30, ABC has “Beauty and the Beast” (2017), a terrific musical adapted from the Disney cartoon.
