1) “St. Denis Medical,” 8 p.m., NBC. After a three-week break, this is back and at its best. Two prisoners arrive in full fury, after stabbing each other; the head nurse (Allison Tolman, shown here) bets the cynical Dr. Ron that she can soothe them. Two other stories are fairly good; this one is hilarious. In the final minute, everything reaches a comedy peak.
2) “Night Court,” 8:30 p.m., NBC. Here’s a reunion of two actresses who brought a great boost to “The Big Bang Theory.” Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik were Benadette and Amy, marrying Howard and Sheldon. Now Rauch stars as Judge Abby – delighted (at first) to see Bialik in the courtroom.
3) “Doc,” 9 p.m., Fox. In the series opener (which Fox ran three times), a crash left a doctor with no memories – personal or medical – of the past eight years. In another terrific hour, she learns of the rifts she created with her daughter and her ex-husband. And not allowed to practice medicine, she can’t help advising her hospital roommate.
4) “Kitchen Nightmares,” 8 p.m., Fox. Last week, Gordon Ramsay fumed that a New Orleans restaurant was “dirty, dysfunctional and crawling with cockroaches.” Now he assigns the co-owner (a nurse by profession) to the kitchen. It’s tough going for her, the diners and viewers.
5) “Finding Your Roots,” 8 p.m., PBS. It’s time to explore the Italian roots of Joy Behar and Michael Imperioli. The latter is a relatively calm and studious chap who played a fierce mobster on “The Sopranos.” In an excellent hour, he learns of some “Sopranos”-style ferocity in his own family.
