1) Rose Parade, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, NBC and ABC. It’s a high-energy start to the new year. The parade (shown here in a previous year) has 32 floats and at at least 20 marching bands (including ones from Japan and Mexico). It also has 16 horse units, including Budweiser Clydesdales and the New Buffalo Soldiers.
2) Bowl games, ESPN. There are only three today, but they’re part of the college championship. At 1 p.m. ET, the Peach Bowl has Texas and Arizona State; at 5, the Rose Bowl has Oregon-Ohio State; at 8:45, the Sugar Bowl has Georgia-Notre Dame. The winners, plus Tuesday’s Fiesta Bowl winners, advance to the Jan. 9-10 semi-finals.
3) Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, 8-11 p.m., ABC. A music marathon is crammed into three hours. Inducted (and, usually, performing) are Mary J. Blige, Peter Frampton, Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, Dave Matthews Band and A Tribe Called Quest. Also performing: Jennifer Hudson, Dua Lipa, Sammy Hagar, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Slash, more.
4) “NCIS: Origins,” 8-11 p.m., CBS. We get ample chances to catch up on this new show. Episodes 4-6 rerun here, with 7 on Monday and 8-10 on Jan. 12. That sets up the Jan. 27 return. Tonight’s first hour reveals the moment that changed Gibbs’ life; the third has his first undercover mission. In between, Franks rushes to question a man about to be executed.
5) “Star Wars” films, TNT. This sequel trilogy wraps a nine-film arc, which has three separate trilogies. Films are at 1:45 (2015), 4:45 (2017) and 8 p.m. (2019). Steve Spielberg’s excellent “Ready Player One” (2018) is at 11:03.
