As the New Year confetti gets swept away, TV starts its in-between phase.

At the worst, that can mean reruns and time-fillers. At the best, there’s a burst of new-show energy.
Listed separately (see story above this) are 42 shows coming to broadcast networks, ranging from the compelling “Doc” (shown here) and gorgeous “Americas” to the so-so “Watson” and “Going Dutch.”
Fourteen of the shows are debuting, the others are season-openers, Nineteen are scripted.
They have plenty of holes to fill: Some fall shows had short seasons and some are taking long breaks; ABC’s best night – “Grey’s Anatomy,” “9-1-1,” “Doctor Odyssey” – will wait until March 6. Then there are all the vacancies created by the end of the football season.
So the fresh wave arrives. This list skips the streaming and cable networks, which tend to go year-around. It includes a few shows that have streamed on Hulu, but are arriving on ABC. It also includes the Sunday dramas on PBS.
