2) “NCIS: Origins,” 10 p.m., CBS. For Franks (Gibbs’ boss and mentor), it’s a rough time. An investigation takes him to a modern (for 1991) mall; this is not his natural turf. Also, Gibbs’ father, who has anger issues, barges in.

3) “Poppa’s House” debut, 8:30 p.m., CBS. Here’s the night’s biggest mystery: How could Damon Wayans – once part of the sharp-witted “In Living Color” – star in such a witless comedy? He plays a radio host, with a disapproving co-host and a pleasant son. The characters are exaggerated; the jokes are flat and forced.

4) “Whitstable Pearl” season-opener, www.acorn.tv. In a gentle, coastal setting, Pearl is both a restaurant owner and a private eye. The characters are likable; the weekly stories are varied. This first one is OK, the next two are terrific; then “Pearl” stumbles for two weeks, before an excellent season-finale. Overall, it’s worth trying for a couple weeks.

5) ALSO: There’s a batch of 8 p.m. choices. CBS has the “Neighborhood” season-opener. NBC has “The Voice,” ABC has “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” Fox has “9-1-1: Lone Star,” with a horse crashing into a brewery. (That never seems to happen in Bud commercials.) And CW has “Superman & Lois,” which last week saw the dead Superman open his eyes.
