2) “Murder in a Small Town,” 9 p.m., Fox. On one hand, this is a clever enigma – a bloody aftermath, but no body. Elevating it, however, is the richly detailed character of the police chief. Under a gentle surface of Canadian calm and decency, he brings crisp observations to a terrific series.

3) “Accused,” 8 p.m., Fox. Like last week’s season-opener, this has a gifted actress in a moving – but deeply depressing — story. This time, it’s Taylor Schilling (“Orange is the New Black”) as an overworked nurse with a difficult son and an overwhelmed husband (Danny Pino). Then life escalates.

4) “FBI International” season-opener, 9 p.m., CBS. The eight Dick Wolf productions are an interchangeable universe. Jesse Lee Soffer spent eight years on “Chicago P.D.” as Halstead, whose brother was on “Chicago Med.” Now Soffer joins this show, avenging a fellow agent’s death. That’s joined by “FBI” and “FBI: Most Wanted” debuts, at 8 and 10.

5) ALSO: After a fun detour (with Melissa McCarthy) last week, Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” is back to business, with a second death (Dudenoff) to ponder. It’s a tangled, sorta-fun episode. But “The Irrational” (10 p.m., NBC) has an off week. There are some wildly correct guesses, alongside a failure to protect the most obvious person.
