All the ABC comedies (and more) set for Halloween

For decades, ABC had an October tradition:
Each of its situation comedies had a Halloween episode. “Roseanne” (later re-titled “The Conners”) was the best; “Modern Family” was close.
And now? Once again, every sitcom is involved … but, ABC only has one. That’s “Abbott Elementary,” a comedy island stranded between unscripted shows on Wednesdays. “The Conners” has been renewed for a final season, but that will be later; it’s on the shelf during its favorite holiday.
So ABC is making do with Halloween themes for other shows. Its first samplingias Oct. 13; it starts a three-Sunday string of light scare movies with “Haunted Mansion,” surrounded by spooky themes to an “America’s Funniest Home Videos” rerun and a new “Celebrity Family Feud.” The others — including “Hocus Pocus,” shown here — will be Oct. 20-31. They are:
— The sitcom: It’s the Halloween party at “Abbott Elementary” (9:30 p.m., Oct. 30) and all is well. Except parents object to the hygiene of apple-bobbing; also, the couples costume of Janine and Gregory doesn’t click.
— The cruise: Halloween Week on “Doctor Odyssey” includes a high-stakes costume party. That’s at 9 p.m. Oct. 24, preceded by Halloween-night rescues on “9-1-1.” A week later, on the actual holiday, “Doctor Odyssey” reruns the Halloween episode.
— The movies: After “Haunted Mansion” on Oct. 13, the Disney movie night (8:01 p.m. Sunday) goes to “Hocus Pocus” (1993) and its belated sequel (2022), on Oct. 20 and 27. By then, of course, many viewers will have seen those films approximately a zillion times on Freeform, during its “31 Days of Halloween.” Both ABC and Freeform are owned by Disney.
— The videos: Last year’s Halloween edition of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” reruns at 7 p.m. Oct. 13; this year’s is two weeks later, on Oct. 27.
— The game show: “Press Your Luck” has a Halloween episode at 10 p.m. Oct. 27, promptly rerunning it at 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
— Also: “Live With Kelly and Mark” plans a Halloween party for Oct. 31. That’s syndicated, station-by-station, but it’s produced by Disney and in many markets airs at 9 a.m. on an ABC station.
