2) “Accused” season-opener, 8 p.m., Fox. A gifted actress is finally back to work. Felicity Huffman almost vanished after the 2019 college -admissions scandal. Now she plays a defendant, someone who feels she has visions of missing children. It’s a deeply depressing story, but beautifully done by Huffman, her husband William H. Macy and others.

3) “Murder in a Small Town,” 9 p.m., Fox. It isn’t easy to come up with stories featuring a librarian and a police chief. The first two episodes did that seamlessly. In this one, Kristin Kreuk (one of the two stars) is barely present. It’s still a strong hour, with the cop (Rossif Sutherland) probing the claims of a beautiful-but-mysterious loner (Stana Katic of “Castle”).

4) “The Irrational” season-opener, 10 p.m., NBC. Alec (Jesse L. Martin) is a behavioral-science professor who usually offers an outside perspective. But now things get personal: In an involving (if somewhat overwrought0 hour, his loved one (a former British spy) has been abducted.

5) MORE: For the second straight night, two top reality shows – NBC’s “The Voice” and ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” – collide from 8-10 p.m. Also, PBS launches “Citizen Nation” – a four-week look at a teen civic competition – at 9 p.m., then views the U.S. vice-presidential candidates at 10.
