Best-bets for Sept. 26: “Grey’s” leads ABC surge

1) “Grey’s Anatomy” (shown here) season-opener, 10 p.m., ABC. It’s the 21st season, passing “Gunsmoke” on the all-time list. Among scripted, primetime shows, that’s topped only by “The Simpsons” and two “Law & Order” shows, heading into No. 36, 26 and 24. “Station 19” is gone now, so Ben (Jason George) returns to “Grey’s.” Read more…

2) “9-1-1” season-opener and “Doctor Odyssey” debut, 8 and 9 p.m., ABC. Two Ryan Murphy productions take over a night that was once only for Shonda Rhimes shows. First, a trailer-truck crash pours millions of bees into the city. Then Joshua Jackson is the doctor on a luxury liner.

3) “People’s Choice Country Awards,” 8-10 p.m., NBC. It’s the second year for the awards, this time with Shania Twain hosting. Miranda Lambert and Kane Brown will get special awards; they’ll perform, as will Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Parker McCollum, Lady A and The War and Treaty.

4) “Young Sheldon,” 9 p.m., CBS. An excellent series kept getting better; now here’s a rerun of the terrific finale. Jim Parsons, the narrator for all seven seasons, finally is on-camera as old Sheldon, with Mayim Bialik as his wife Amy. Other reruns are a so-so “Ghost” (Isaac’s wedding) at 9:30 and a clever “Elsbeth” (a matchmaker schemes) at 10.

5) “Crime Scene Kitchen” season-opener, 9 p.m., Fox. There are deep flaws with this concept, which seems to reward only the guess and not the quality of the result. Remarkably, host Joel McHale helps us overlook most of that and have fun. That follows the “Hell’s Kitchen” season-opener at 8.
