1) “The Choice,” 9-11 p.m., PBS. Once every four years, the “Frontline” people create a side-by-side portrait of the presidential candidates. The result tends to be deep, detailed and even-handed. Even against strong competition — including top people (shown here) on the “America’s Got Talent” finale — this is must-see TV.
2) “America’s Got Talent” finale, 8-11 p.m., NBC. The final performances were a week ago, so we might need some reminders. At 8 p.m., they’re recapped; from 9-11, there are lots of performances — Michael Buble, Andra Day (shown here), Gabriel Iglesias, Detroit Youth Choir and the Simone Biles and “Magic Mike” troupes. Then the winner is named.
3) “Murder in a Small Town” debut, 8-9:30 p.m., Fox. Here’s a real sleeper – a quiet, Canadian production that’s subtly written and perfectly cast. Kristin Kreuk, playing a librarian, has been a star since the “Smallville” days; Rossif Sutherland, as the police chief, is way less-known than his dad (Donald) and half-brother (Kiefer). He brings an instant likability.
4) “High Potential,” 10 p.m., ABC. In last week’s amiable opener, police fumed when their cleaning lady (Kaitlin Olson) messed with their murder case. She has a 160 IQ and cracked it. Now she’s a consultant (over the objections of some cops), probing the death of a tap dancer.
5) “Only Murders in the Building,” Hulu. Things start with a movie producer (Molly Shannon) waving a gun. Soon, our heroes are at the set of her movie about them. There are great moments, from the overwrought Oliver (Martin Short) to the dry Mabel (Selena Gomez), plus a screaming John McEnroe.
