“Mookie Betts” – Fresh off the heels of his return to the Dodgers starting lineup, eight-time all-star and Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts trades in his baseball bat for a sledgehammer as he returns to his hometown of Nashville, Tenn., to surprise his father, Willie, with a much-needed home renovation. While taking a break from the renovation, Boston Rob takes Mookie on a trip down memory lane to his old high school where Mookie reunites with his former coach and also places a friendly batting practice wager with Boston Rob, a die-hard and life-long Red Sox fan, to wear a Dodgers hat back to Boston if he can’t hit a ball at Major League speeds. A special edition of SECRET CELEBRITY RENOVATION airs Friday, Sept. 20 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). Best-bets for Sept. 20: civil discussion, Mookie construction

1) “Secret Celebrity Renovation,” 8 p.m., CBS. A year ago, this amiable show wrapped its third (and, seemingly, final) season. But here’s a new, stand-alone episode. 2) “Deadlock,” 9 p.m., PBS. This network clings to the quaint belief that Americans can have a civil discussion. On Monday, that will be the focus of a Judy Woodruff special. First, here’s the pilot for a show that doesn’t tell panelists what hypothetical situation they’ll be discussing.

3) Football. This year, TV has three-day football weekends. Tonight has Stanford and Syracuse at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN; Illinois and Nebraska (ranked No. 24 and No. 22 nationally) at 8 on Fox; and San Jose State and Washington State, at 10 on CW. That last one follows NASCAR at 7:30, with pre-race coverage at 7.

4) “His Three Daughters,” Netflix. Three gifted actresses — Elisabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne – star in an intense drama, filmed mostly in one New York apartment. That wraps a busy streaming week, including the season-opener of “Frasier” (Paramount+) and the start of series focusing on the Penguin (HBO/Max) and Agatha the witch (Disney+).

5) ALSO: At 8 p.m., ABC reruns Monday’s opening episode of Kaitlin Olson as a genius-IQ crimesolver in “High Potential.” At 9, ABC’s “20/20” starts its season and CBS’ “Lingo” wraps its season. And at 8 ET, Turner Classic Movies has “Dr. Strangelove,” the darkly brilliant anti-war comedy.
