1) “Young Sheldon,” 9 p.m., CBS. As last week’s rerun ended, the family learned that Sheldon’s father had died. Now comes the funeral (shown here), a complicated time for a teen unfamiliar with most emotions. This rerun (like next week’s series finale) is a skillful mix of humor and pain.
2) “CBS Fall Preview,” 9:30, CBS. Unlike other networks, CBS is delaying the start of its season until Oct. 21. Still, it’s previewing the newcomers a month in advance. Two have already shown terrific episodes to critics – “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” (the “Young Sheldon” sequel) and “Matlock,” which will show its pilot film at 8 p.m. Sunday.
3) “The Penguin” debut, 9 p.m., HBO, rerunning at 10:10, 11:20, etc. The 2022 epic “The Batman” included Colin Farrell as the former lieutenant to a crime boss. Now the boss is dead and his psychotic daughter (Cristin Milioti) looms. Over eight episodes (also on Max), Penguin tries to seize power.
4) “Frasier” season-opener, Paramount+. Two decades after ending a brilliant, 11-year run, this show emerged last season. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) returned to Boston, near his son and nephew. Now the second season has Roz (Peri Gelpin) and her daughter (Greer Grammer, Kelsey’s daughter), plus Patricia Heaton as a possible love interest.
5) “Found,” 10 p.m., NBC. In two weeks, this will start its second season, with a sharp change. First, here’s a rerun of the first-season finale. It collides with ABC’s season-finale of “Lucky 13,” which also has an episode at 9, and CBS’s “Elsbeth” rerun, with murder at a reality show.
