1) “English Teacher” debut, 10 and 10:32 p.m., FX; rerunning at 11:06. In a liberal sub-section of Texas (suburban Austin), Evan is a proudly gay teacher. Most people are fine with it, but issues appear: Kissing his boyfriend? A drag show? This sounds heavy, but writer-star Brian Alvarez (left) keeps it funny, with a great supporting cast.
2) Marathons. Labor Day is a fine time for cable marathons. So FXX has non-stop “Simpsons,” from 7 a.m. to 4 a,m. TNT has Will Smith films — the “Men in Black” ones at 2, 4 and 5:45 p.m., “Independence Day” at 8. Syfy has Harry Potter films, from the third one (6 a.m.) to the two-part finale, at 6:58 and 10:05 p.m.
3) “Celebrity Family Feud,” 8-11 p.m., ABC. With “Bachelorette” waiting until Tuesday for its finale, ABC fills the gap with “Feud” reruns. This has some of the top non-winners of “American Idol”: The first hour includes Daughry; the second has runners-up – Clay Aiken facing Katharine McPhee.
4) “The Chicano Squad,” 9-11 p.m., A&E. Faced with a soaring murder rate, Houston hd a fresh plan in 1979: It promoted several Latino officers to detective, for a separate homicide unit. The result, this two-night documentary says, set new standards in community policing.
5) “61st Street,” 9 p.m., CW. A week from the finale, Franklin (Courtney B. Vance) has fresh evidence; he calls Logan’s police colleagues to the stand. That follows “All American: Homecoming,” with Simone fighting for her spot on the tennis team.
