1) College football. The first full day of the season starts with the top-rated teams. Georgia (No. 1), shown here, hosts Clemson (No. 14), at noon ET on ABC. Then Ohio State (No. 2) hosts Akron at 3:30 on CBS. There’s more, including, at 7:30, Notre Dame-Texas A&M (ABC), UCLA-Hawaii (CBS), Fresno State-Michigan (NBC).
2) Sports overload. As it happens, the top five commercial broadcast networks all have sports tonight. At 7:15 ET, Fox has baseball (Braves-Phillies or Brewers-Reds). At 6:30, CW starts its link with the Pac-12 conference … which suddenly has only two teams. One of them (Oregon State) hosts Idaho State in football.
3) “Some Like It Hot” (1959), 8 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. The American Film Institute puts this at No. 22 on its best-movie list … and No. 1 on its funniest-movie list. The guys-in-gowns humor may seem dated, but it’s a fun film with Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis … who fills TCM’s day with movies, mostly dramas.
4) “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982), 1:45 p.m. and midnight, AMC. This frames a fine day of ‘80s teen films. It’s “The Outsiders” (1983), at 3:45 p.m.; “The Breakfast Club” (1985) at 5:45; “Pretty in Pink” (1986) at 8; and “Sixteen Candles” (1984) at 10.
5) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Here’s a rerun of the Nov. 11 episode, with Timothee Chalamet hosting and Boygenius (a three-woman indie group) as music guest. It was the first show after the actors’ strike, allowing Chalamet to promote his delightful “Wonka.”
