2) “American Masters,” 8 p.m. Tuesday, PBS. The opening credits ripple with fun, in the “Pink Panther” style. We can tell this portrait of writer-director Blake Edwards will be special. 3) “The Chosen” season-opener, 8 p.m. Sunday, CW. It’s the fourth of seven seasons, tracing Jesus and the people nearby. Now the eight-episode season reaches CW, starting with the death of John the Baptist.
4) “Only Murders in the Building” season-opener, Tuesday, Hulu. Each season has been nominated for the best-comedy Emmy, but this may be the best one yet. 7) “Counting the Votes,” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, PBS. How secure are our votes? Margaret Hoover (great-granddaughter of Herbert Hoover) has a national tour, viewing the machines and meeting the people. She starts with a fellow Republican, Jeb Bush: After the chaos of 2000, he pushed Florida reforms that passed unanimously.
8) Football. At 9 p.m. Friday, CW’s “Inside the NFL” previews the pro season, which starts Sept. 5. On Saturday, the first full day of college football starts with the two top-ranked teams: Georgia hosts Clemson (noon ET, ABC ) and Ohio State hosts Akron (3:30 p.m., CBS). There’s more, including UCLA-Hawaii (7:30, CBS).
9) “Snowpiercer,” 9 p.m. Sunday, AMC. Three weeks from the series finale, this is stuffed with huge moments. Villains are slain and a new one emerges, alongside fresh obstacles. Melanie returns, unaware of the death of her loved one (Ben) and the crises of her daughter. Epic characters come face-to-face, with the world at risk.
