1) Football, 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC. Most years, the season starts with a focus on HBCU (historically Black college and university) teams. This time, Florida A&M (shown here) — last year’s HBCU champion with a 12-1 record — faces Norfolk State, which was 3-8 last year.
2) More football. The full line-up is a week away, but here are three other TV games, neatly spaced. Florida State (ranked No. 10) visits Georgia Tech at noon ET. Then it’s Montana State-New Mexico, 4 p.m., FoxSports1; and SMU-Nevada, 8 p.m., CBS Sports Network.
3) “The Equalizer,” 8 p.m., CBS. Here’s an intense rerun, putting the pressure on Dante. The parole officer of his father (Big Ben) wants him to accompany Big Ben on a trip to a funeral. Soon, they’re in a trap and a gunfight.
4) “Mammals,” 8-9:15 p.m., BBC America. Last week, this wrapped a splendid look at mammals worldwide. Now here’s a compilation of the making-of segments. It’s surrounded by “Frozen Planet” reruns, from .4 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. That’s narrated by David Attenborough, 98. whose orangutan film arrived Thursday on Netflix.
5) Movies. Two action classics will be side-by-side – “Top Gun” (1986), noon and 7:30 p.m., CMT; and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), noon and 8 p.m., Paramount Network. Freeform has 2021 films – “Encanto” and “Cruella,” at 6 and 8:10. Turner Classic Movies has Grace Kelly films, including “To Catch a Thief” (1955) at 8 ET.
