The Sept. 10 debate – which once seemed iffy – has some specifics now.
ABC today offered these details:
— It will be at the National Constitution Center (shown here) in Philadelphia, at 9 p.m. ET.
— The moderators will be David Muir and Linsey Davis. They’re the anchors of the newscasts of, respectively, ABC and its streaming service, ABC News Live.
— ABC will also have a special at 8, “Race for the White House,” with Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Mary Bruce and Rachel Scott.
–The debate itself will be on ABC, ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu. Although ABC didn’t mention it here, it’s been a tradition for other networks to also carry each presidential debate.
Joe Biden and Donald Trump had originally agreed to the Sept. 10 debate. When Biden decided not to run for re-election, Kamala Harris agreed to the date; Trump hesitated, calling for an earlier one with Fox News, but relented.
A third-party candidate will only be allowed if he or she gets 15-percent in national polls. Other rules haven’t yet been set.
Cable networks have had varied reactions to the debate. MTV moved its Music Video Awards from Sept. 10 to Sept. 11; Hallmark, however, has chosen Sept. 10 as the launch date for its expanded streamer, Hallmark+.
