Best-bets for Aug. 12: NBC’s summer shows return

1) “American Ninja Warrior,” 8-10 p.m., NBC. For 17 days, NBC’s summer shows were sidelined by the Olympics. Now they’re back, led by “Ninja” (shown here) on Mondays and “America’s Got Talent” on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 2) “NCIS: Sydney” return, 9 p.m. today, CBS, When a U.S. sailor dies of radiation in Australia, a task force is formed. Olivia Swann and J.D. Lasance star as opposites – a by-the-book NCIS agent and an Aussie cop given to improvisation. The eight-episode season, returning for reruns, is contrived but entertaining.

3) “Signora Volpe” season-finale, 6-8:07 p.m., BBC America and www.acorn.tv Last week, Sylvia finally met her father; like her, he’s a former British spy. Now he has a key role, when she’s held hostage. It’s an intense tale, wrapping up a terrific, three-movie season.

4) “Great American Recipe” finale, 9 p.m., PBS. Three finalists bring varied food influences. Adjo Honsou, a scientist, emigrated from Togo at 14 … Marcella DiChiara spent girlhood summers in Sicily … Jon Hinojosa began making Mexican-style food for his siblings after his parents died when he was young.

5) “61st Street,” 9 p.m., CW. Franklin (Courtney B. Vance) was a hero in the Black community, after defending a teen murder suspect. But now, hoping to expose police corruption, he’s defending the white cop who admits killing a Black man. Friends are enraged; so is his wife.
