1) Olympics: track-and-field, NBC. This used to be the Olympics core. It gave us the stars – Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Jim Thorpe, Flo-Jo, Bruce Jenner, Rev. Bob Richards, Carl Lewis, Dick Fosbury, more. Now Americans prefer swimming, gymnastics and such, but it’s time for track (shown here in a previous Olympics) to begin That’s 10-10:40 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. ET, then in the 8-11 p.m. recap.
2) More Olympics. There are medal rounds on NBC (archery and equestrian jumping, 10:40 11:15 a.m. ET) and on USA (badminton, 10:10 a.m.; rowing, 2:15 p.m.; BMX, 5:30 p.m.). Also, there’s swimming at 5 a.m. on USA and 1-4 p.m. (alongside track) on NBC. The U.S. has men’s beach volleyball, at 9 a.m. on NBC. And everything is recapped, 8-11 p.m.
3) “The Serpent Queen,” 8 p.m., Starz, rerunning at 9:32 and 11:02. Until now, Catherine de Medici has easily held power in France. Her son Francis became king at 15, but had little interest and died a year later; then his brother Charles took over at 10. But now Charles is starting to overrule his mom, at the same time that rebellions grow elsewere.
4) “SWAT,” 9 p.m., CBS. Yakuze assassins are suddenly targeting people who moved from Japan to Los Angeles. That rerun is followed by a “Blue Bloods” one: Danny links with his former police partner, after a serial killer returns. Also, Eddie tries to help a woman who accused a sergeant of rape.
5) Movies. All four “Toy Story” films are on FX, at 4, 6, 8 and 10 p.m. Other gems include “Pulp Fiction” (1994, 8 p.m., Showtime), “Trading Places” 1983, 8:15, IFC) and an all-day Ida Lupino marathon on Turner Classic Movies, peaking with “High Sierra” (1941), at 8 p.m. ET.
