1) Olympics: women’s gymnastics (shown here) team finals, NBC. One of the peak points in the Olympics comes early. The team title always brings a stir. (Remember 1996, with a hobbled Kerri Strug sticking her landing in a narrow U.S. win?) You can catch it live at 12:15 p.m. ET or as part of the nightly wrap-up, from 8-11. Then things re-start, with all the individual events.
2) More Olympics. The U.S. men’s volleyball teams have matches indoors (7:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET.. USA Network) and outdoors (9 a.m. and 5 p.m., NBC). The men’s soccer team has plays a 1 p.m. on USA. There’s much more, including medals in swimming, rugby and triathlon; that’s live during the day and part of the 8-11 p.m. summary.
3) “Celebrity Family Feud,” 8 p.m., ABC. Music groups collide: It’s Daughtry vs. Papa Roach and an old/new battle — Earth, Wind and Fire, big since the 1970s, vs. the emerging married duo, The War and Treaty. Steve Harvey hosts, then his “Judge Steve Harvey” is at 9.
4) “The Gods of Tennis.” 9 p.m., PBS. In 1981, Wimbleton had a classic battle. Bjorn Borg , a five-time champion at 26,was a handsome Swede with calm approach. “I never saw Bjorn get upset,” one player said. “That’s not human.” John McEnroe, son of a Queens lawyer, was the opposite. “There were some anger issues,” he grants. It’s great story to re-tell.
5) ALSO: Reruns include “The Conners” (8-10 p.m., CW) and the FBI shows (8-11 p.m., CBS). Movies are light – the amiable “Jungle Cruise” (2021), 7 p.m., Freeform; “Godzilla x Kong” (2024), 7:02, HBO; “The Endless Summer” (1966), a surfing classic, 8 p.m. ET, Turner Classic Movies.
