1) Olympics opening ceremony, NBC. With a six-hour time difference, NBC will air this twice – live at 1:30 p.m.. ET (with a preview at noon) and again at 7:30. Mike Tirico, Kelly Clarkson and Peyton Manning will anchor, as the Seine River (shown here) has a parade of athletes. There are 10,500 of them from 206 countries, including 592 from the U.S.
2) “SWAT,” 9 p.m., CBS. This goes back to the season-opener, when Hondo went to Mexico to transport a prisoner. Things went badly and he soon had to protect a witness in the case. That rerun is followed at 10 by one from “Blue Bloods.”
3) Great movies. BBC America has some terrific ones. There’s “The Untouchables” (1987) at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., “Stand By Me” (1986) at 1:30 and 6 and “A Few Good Men” (1992) at 8. And at 10 p.m. ET, Turner Classic Movies has the deeply moving “Sounder” (1972)
4) Superman spree, HBO. This starts with the four Christopher Reeve films, at 9:06 and 11:34 a.m. and 1:44 and 3:52 p.m. Then new actors take over – Brandon Routh in “Superman Returns” at 5:23 and Henry Cavill in “Justice League” at 8. Playing his superpals are Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa.
5) Games and such. There’s a new “Lingo” at 8 p.m. on CBS and a couple of reruns. At 8, ABC replays part of its “Jeopardy Masters” tournament; at 9, PBS repeats Monday’s “Great American Recipe.”
