The Bob Newhart tributes are expanding now, sprawling through the weekend and into Monday evening.
Newhart died Thursday at 94 Newly added are:
— A three-hour burst at 8 p.m. Sunday on TBS, with six “Big Bang Theory” episodes that have Newhart as Professor Proton, Sheldon’s TV hero.
— A documentary hour at 8 p.m. Monday on CBS. “Bob Newhart: A Legacy of Laughter” includes clips, plus comments from Jim Parsons, Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, Jason Bateman and Michael Weatherly.
That makes sense, because CBS was the home for Newhart’s situation comedies (shown here). His style – droll, dry and clever – fit alongside a network of Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett and more.
Previously announced was a marathon on the Crunchy Comedy digital channel. It tentatively has reruns from:
— “Bob Newhart” (1972-78), starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
— “Newhart”(1982-90), starting at 9 a.m. Sunday.
— “Bob” (1992-93), 1-6 a.m. Monday.
