Best-bets for July 18: Convention ends; Shaq show begins

1) Republican convention. The four-day event (shown here iin a prevous year) concludes, as always, with the acceptance speech by the presidential nominee, followed by balloons and commotion. That’s expected to be at 10 p.m., when ABC and CBS join the coverage (and when Fox stations can use the Fox News Channel feed). NBC starts at 9 p.m., PBS at 8, news channels even earlier. Read more…

2) “Press Your Luck” season-opener, 8 p.m., ABC. Tonight, ABC wraps up its belated roll-out of a summer line-up. Over a two-week stretch, it’s inserting five game show, two specials, “The Bachelorette” and “Judge Steve Harvey.” This one is a game hosted by Elizabeth Banks.

3) “Lucky 13” debut, 9 p.m., ABC. Here’s the one new show ABC is launching this summer. It’s a trivia quiz show with truly diverse hosts — 7-foot-1 Shaquille O’Neal and 5-foot-3 Gina Rodriguez.

4) ”Ghosts,: 8:30 p..m., CBS. Sam seems to be close to her new assistant, Freddie; Hattie disapproves. Other comedy reruns are “Young Sheldon” (8 p.m., CBS) and “The Conners” (8 and 8:30, CW). The latter has episodes from February/March 2023, with Harris fuming at her mom, Darlene.

5) ALSO: Two master filmmakers have 8 p.m. movies. Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed” (2006), an intense cops-and-crooks tale that won the best-picture Oscar, is on AMC; Steven Spielberg’s superb “Jurassic Park” is on TNT. Also, Netflix adds a new season of “Cobra Kai.”
