1) “IF” (2024), 8 p.m., MGM+. Whimsy and melancholy co-exist, in a film that’s always good-hearted and sometimes entertaining. John Krasinski wrote, directed and plays a widower facing heart surgery; his daughter, 12, meets Ryan Reynolds and a world of invisible friends (shown here).
2) “Descendants: The Rise of Red” debut, Disney+. After a five-year gap, here’s the fourth movie musical centering on the kids of Disney heroes and villains. This time, Cinderella’s daughter must time-travel, trying to stop the Queen of Hearts from turning evil.
3)”Night Court,” 8 and 8:30 p.m., NBC. It was almost 40 years ago that Brent Spiner and Annie O’Donnell were on the original “Night Court” as the hard-luck Wheelers. They did six episodes, just before Spiner found fame as Data in the “Star Trek” universe. Now they’re back, in the second rerun; in the first, Dan wants to be in a Fleet Week poker game.
4) “SWAT,” 9 p.m., CBS. Hondo leads a citywide manhunt, after a robbery crew shoots a cop. That’s followed by “Blue Bloods”: Danny leaps into action after his son is one of the victims in a campus crime spree; also, Erin suspects that an overworked lawyer isn’t working in his client’s best interests.
5) “Serpent Queen” season-opener, 8 p.m., Starz, rerunning at 9:30, 10:50 and 12:13, Born in Italy, Catherine de’ Medici married a French prince at 14, became queen consort at 27, was widowed at 40 and guided three sons who became Frnch kings. As the second season starts, Catherine (Samantha Morton) is trying to boost her second son, King Charles IX.
