1) ‘80s journey. Cable keeps offering fun films from the 1980s. Fitting into that trend is the debut of Hulu’s “Brats”: Andrew McCarthy visits former colleagues, who were smudged by a 1985 article calling them the “brat pack.” As it happens, two of their films are on AMC – “Sixteen Candles” (1984) at 9:30 and “Breakfast Club” (snown here, 1985) at 11:30.
2) More ‘80s. Beyond that, today – like most days – has lots of excellent ‘80s movies. AMC has “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986) at 2 p.m. and the vibrant “Footloose” (1984) at 7. At 7:30 is James Cameron’s “Terminator” (1984) on BBC America. At 8, Showtime has Eddie Murphy in “Trading Places” (1986) and MGM+ has the superb “Stand By Me” (1986).
3) “Young Sheldon,” 8 p.m., CBS. For three weeks after its brilliant finale, “Sheldon” was off the air. Now reruns finally return, starting with the season-opener. The aftermath of the tormado brings humor, woe and some surprising changes, especially from Missy.
4) “The Boys” season-opener, Amazon Prime. Real-life elections are tough enough; now an evil congresswoman is being manipulated by the scheming Homelander. (Wait, are there evil congresswomen in real life?) The season’s first three episodes arrive today, with the other five being weekly.
5) ALSO: After two games in Florida, the pro hockey finals cross the border into Edmonton; game three of the best-of-seven series is 8:30 p.m. on ABC, with pre-game at 8. Also, Turner Classic Movies has a true classic in “Sunset Boulevard” (1950) at 8 p.m. ET; “Billy Eliot” (2000) follows at 10.
