1) “Air” (2023), 8-10 p.m..Tuesday, ABC. As a director and star, Ben Affleck has a neat touch with real-life stories that take quirky twists. His “Argo” won the best-picture Oscar; now “Air” has drawn praise in theaters and streaming. Affleck (shown here in a re-created Nike ad) plays Nike owner Phil Knight, with Matt Damon as Knight’s key man in landing Michael Jordan.
2) “Clipped,” Hulu. Here’s another true-sports story, but without the joy. In last week’s opener, a tape was leaked, with the Los Angeles Clippers’ owner’s racial rant to his bi-racial girlfriend. Now the Black players and coach grope for a response. One scene, as they ponder their next step, is a gem of great writing , directing and acting.
3) “The Quiz With Balls,” 9 p.m., Two families compete to avoid being bumped in the water by mega-balls. Some answers are way too easy – we’re betting thst many people know carrots grow underground and Greece has hosted the Olympics – and some are nearly impossible. The players are overwrought, the host is just OK … but it’s still fun to see a final judgment rolling toward people.
4) Hostage tales. On the fictional side, there are the CBS reruns. In “FBI” (8 p.m.), the hostages are a migrant-center director and his wife; in “FBI: Most Wanted” (10 p.m.), they’re members of a high school debate team. In the non-fiction,“Hostage Rescue” (9 p.m., CW), they are late-night workers at an office-supply store.
5) “Frontline,” 10 p.m., PBS. A rerun-stuffed week for PBS is broken up by this new documentary. It views the complicated spring on campus, as students protested about both sides in the Gaza war.
