“The Chosen” (shown here) – the Biblical series that has gradually thrived on streaming and cable – is starting its fourth season.
For this one, it has an ongoing tie to BYUtv. Episodes will stream on BYU on Mondays and Fridays (starting June 3), then appear on its cable channel o Sundays (starting June 9) and Wednesdays.
The project began as an ambitious attempt: Crowdfund a seven-year series tracing the life of Jesus, primarily from the view of the people around him.
Some of the early episodes were filmed on Biblical sets which the Mormon church has in Utah. In exchange, the series ran on BYUtv, the Brigham Young Unversity station.
Eventually, the show built its own sets in Texas and expanded its reach. It’s been on broaccast (CW), cable (UpTV, Trinity), streamers (Peacock, Netflix) and in theaters.
Now comes the eight-episode fourth season, which has already run in theaters. The plan:
— Sunday (June 2): The first episode is on the “Chosen” app.
— Monday (June 3): That airs on the BYUtv app and streams at BYUtv.org, at 7 p.m. ET, 4 p.m. PT.
— Thursday (June 6): Second episode is on the “Chosen” app.
— Friday (June 7): Second episode is on BYUtv app and streams at 8:30 p.m. ET.
— Sunday (June 9): Both episodes air on the BYUtv station, which is available via cable and satellite. (They will also air at 9 p.m. the next Wednesday, June 12.) Also, the third episode is on the “Chosen” app, repeating the cycle for the next week.
