1) “America’s Got Talent” season-opener, 8-10 p.m., NBC. Here’s the show that tends to dominate summertime ratings. Most of its time is spent on auditions, with a wild assortmentof people singing, spinning, dancing, leapng and such. (Shown here is Renya Roberts.) On Aug. 13 (after an Olympic break), it will turn to live performances and viewer votes.
2) Game shows, 8-11 p.m. First is Fox, with its new summer line-up. At 8 p.m., Jamie Foxx hosts “Beat Shazam,” with his daughter Corinne as DJ. At 9, Jay Pharoah hosts “The Quiz With Balls” … which does, indeed, have large balls dislodging people who give wrong answers. At 10, switch to NBC for “Password”; it’s Joel McHale’s turn to challenge Jimmy Fallon.
3) “The Great War” 8-10:05 p.m., History; or “Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter,” 9-11 p.m., Investigation Discovery. Here are two-part, four-hour documentaries that started Monday. (You can catch reruns of the first half, at 6 p.m. on History and 7 on ID.) One is a fresh look at World War I; it reruns at 10:05 and 12:03; the other views the tragedies of the former Backstreet Boy and his late brother.
4) Game shows, ABC. It’s a night of rerun. First are celebrity editions of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeoppardy.” Then “$100,000 Pyramid” pits comedy actors; it’s Jason Alexander against Rosie O’Donnell and Oscar Nunez against Lauren Ash.
5) Sports. As TV slips into its summer mode, the winter sports are still in their play-offs. Hockey has New York and Florida at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN; basketball has Minnesota and Dallas, at 8:30 on TNT. Baseball (yes, a summer sport) has the Dodgers and Mets, at 7 p.m. on TBS.
