1) “Purlie Victorious,” 9 p.m.,, PBS. Three weeks before the Tonys, this has six nominations, including best play revival and two for its actors (shown here): Leslie Odom Jr. romps through a blitz of florid dialog, as the scheming but good-hearted Purlie; Kara Young offers some Carol Burnett-style moves, as his accomplice. They partly conquer the show’s broad humor and turbo-speed dialog.
2) “Lingo” season-opener, 8 and 9 p.m.,CBS. This word-game, hosted by RuPaul Charles, returns. The first hour has teachers vs. doctors and friends vs. newlyweds; then the winners go on to the next hour. We can’t get too used to this, though; CBS plans 8 p.m. specials for a couple Fridays, June 7 and 14.
3) “Blue Bloods,” 10 p.m., CBS. As the summer rerun season begins, Danny must link with an old parter, when a serial killer reappears. Also, Danny’s brother Jamie has a dispute with Joe Hill, a young cop who is their nephew.
4) “Atlas,” Netflix. Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez) is a researcher with an admirable distrust of artificial intelligence. But as she tries to prevent a robot takeover, her ally is, alas, an AI. That arrives on a streaming day that includes two documentaries – the Beach Boys on Disney+ and the Blue Angels flight team on Amazon Prime. On Thursday, Paramount+ started the final “Evil” season,
5) Movies. Turner Classic Movies starts a Memorial Day weekend marathon with “The Caine Mutiny” (1954) at 8 p.m. ET and “Platoon” (1986) at 10:15. Others stick to adventures and their sequels – “Jurassic Park” at 11 a.m. (1993) and 2 p.m. (1997) on E, repeating at 7 and 10; “National Treasure” (2004 and 2007) at 6 and 9 p.m. on AMC. USA has Harry Potter films, with the finale at 7 and 10.
