ABC summer: Sunday movies, weekday games

This summer, ABC will go with a plan that worked during the strikes.
It will turn Sunday back into a movie night – starting with “Inside Out” (shown here) and possibly including lots of Disney films. That will let game shows sprawl across the weekdays, alongside “The Bachelorette.”
That line-up will tiptoe around the pro-basketball finals, which dominate June:
— On June 2, the Sunday movies start with “Inside Out” (2015), which won the Oscar for best animated feature and was nominated for its screenplay. It arrives 12 days before the sequel reaches theaters.
— The next Sunday, however, will be set aside for the second game of the best-of-seven basketball finals. Other games will be scattered on different days, with the seventh (if needed) on Sunday, June 23.
— So the main surge will start late, packing July 8-11 with games and reality shows.
During that time, ABC will try to double up on its stars. Steve Harvey will host “Celebrity Family Feud” and “Judge Steve Harvey” … Kevin and Franklin Jonas will be the first “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” contestants, then will host their own “Claim to Fame” … Jimmy Kimmel will host “Millionaire” and also have his late-night show.
There will also be two newcomers to the game-show world: Shaquille O’Neal, 7-foot-1, of basketball fame, will link with Gina Rodriguez, 5-foot-3, of “Not Dead Yet,” to host “Lucky 13,” a trivia game show.
ABC has succeeded with Sunday-night games shows. During the strikes, it turned Sundays into a movie night; now it does that again, letting the games boost weeknights.
There should be plenty of movies to go around – maybe. The Freeform cable channel (like ABC, owned by Disney) has declared that June will be Disney Month.
Some networks will start their season early; NBC is launching “America’s Got Talent,” the annual summer ratings champion, on May 28. Others start late; CW’s “All American: Homecoming” and “61st Street.” two of the only new, scripted summer shows on a broadcast network, arrive July 8 and 11. ABC’s plan is:
SUNDAYS: Movies at 8 p.m., starting June 2 with “Inside Out.” But basketball takes over on June 9 and possibly 23.
MONDAYS: “Bachelorette” with Jenn Tran, starting July 8.
TUESDAYS: “Celebrity Family Feud.” On July 9, an 8 p.m. special celebrates 50 years of “Feud,” with the season-opener at 9. A week later, that moves to 8 p.m., with “Judge Steve Harvey” at 9.
WEDNESDAYS: “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” at 8 p.m., “Claim to Fame” at 9, starting July 10.
THURSDAYS On July 11, the annual “ESPYS” sports awards. A week later, “Press Your Luck” at 8 p.m. and “Lucky 13” at 9.
