1) “Now Hear This,” 9 p.m., PBS. As a young violinist, Scott Yoo was “tortured” by the demands of Nicolo Paganini’s music. Now he explores the legends – some true, some not – surrounding the composer. He also has interesting (but fairly pointless) looks at the masters of other fields. That’s followed at 10 p.m. by splendid virtuosos – jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman, his band, and singer Gabrielle Cavasso (shown here).
2) “Jane” season-opener, Apple TV+. As Earth Day nears, streamers jump in. On Wednesday, Netflix added the four-part “Our Living World.” Tonight, Apple returns to this show; Jane Garcia, 9, uses her imagination and the example of Jane Goodall to leap into eco-adventures. On Monday, the actual Earth Day, Disney+ has its latest nature epic, “Tiger.”; there’s much more coming.
3) More streaming. It’s a big day for Apple, with “Jane” returning, “Franklin” continuing and “Manhunt” concluding: After a moving flashback with Abraham Lincoln, we see the trial of people charged with conspiring to have him killed. Also today, Netflix has the second of Zach Snyder’s two “Rebel Moon” epics.
4) “The 100th,” 9-11 p.m., CBS. The network had scheduled two “Fire Country” reruns here. Now they’ve been nudged to Saturday, to make room for a quick rerun of Sunday’s concert special; it marked Billy Joel’s 100th consecutive monthly sell-out at the 20,000-seat Madison Square Garden.
5) More. It’s time to decide the final two teams in the pro basketball tournament. The “play-in” games are 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and 9:30 on TNT. This is also an exceptional night for Disney films – “Cinderella” (2015) at 8 p.m. on the Disney Channel and the “Frozen” films (2013 and 2019) at 8 and 10 on FX.
