Best-bets for April 15: “NCIS” reaches No. 1,001

1) “NCIS” (shown here), 9 p.m., CBS. Counting all five “NCIS” shows, this is episode No. 1,000. Appropriately, it focuses on NCIS Director Vance (Rocky Carroll), who’s been in 369 of them. As his son questions Vance’s work, a crisis arrives. The team meshes and past stars appear briefly in flashbacks. It’s a big hour, but strains belief. 2) “NCIS: Hawaii,” 10 p.m., CBS. Now for episode No. 1,001. Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) is in the previous hour, as is Kensi of the now-departed “NCIS: Los Angeles,” but they’re only on video screens, briefly. Now Tennant’s team has a crisis of its own: A Marine has been killed during training. Tracking the suspect into the wilderness, people come across a dark secret.

3) “American Idol,” 8-10 p.m., ABC. On Sunday, the top 20 sang. Now we learn which 10 were advanced by viewers’ votes; then the judges will add four more. Meanwhile, former “Idol” judge Keith Urban is on NBC’s “The Voice” (also 8-10 p.m.), mentoring contestants as they confront the “knockout rounds.”

4) “MGM: When the Lion Roars,” 10 p.m. to 12:15 a.m., ET, Turner Classic Movies. Patrick Stewart narrated this 1992 episode, following MGM from its musical glory in the ‘40s to its troubles in the ‘80s. It’s surrounded by esteemed films – “Singin’ in the Rain” (1952) at 8 p.m. and the piercing “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” (1958) at 12:15 a.m.

5) ALSO: Tonight also has terrific 1980s films: The Paramount Network has the first and third Indiana Jones ones (1981 and ‘89) at 8 and 10:30 p.m.; AMC has the first two “Ghostbusters” (1984 and ‘89) at 9:45 p.m. and 12:15 a.m.; Elsewhere, CW’s “Sight Unseen” reruns its second episode at 9. A fairly good show about a cop who is losing her vision, it has its third hour at 9 p.m. Wednesday.
