They range from the Tony Awards (Ariana DeBose, shown here, will host again) to spin-offs (“NCIS,” “Young Sheldon”), renewals, season-finale dates and even a reprieve for “SWAT” (shown here) which had been cancelled.
Here are highlights:ere” which had been cancelled. Here are highlights:
TONYS: Last year, DeBose – an Oscar-wiunner for “West Side Story” – hosted the Tonys under tricky conditions: With writers on strike, there was no script.
She was vibrant and received an Emmy nomination. Now she’ll be back (June 16), complete with script.
SPIN-OFFS: At least two are in the works. One visits Leroy Jethro Gibbs – the guy Mark Harmon played on “NCIS” – as a young man. The other sees Georgie and Mandy, from “Young Sheldon,” as newlyweds.
RENEWALS: These have mostly been the obvious ones so far. Scripted shows renewed include “NCIS,” “Fire Country,” “Tracker,” “Ghosts,” “The Neighborhood” and the three “FBI” shows – with the original one getting a rare, three-year extension. Then CBS offered a twist: “SWAT,” long listed as near its finale, wlll be back next season.
Nothing has been officially canceled yet, but CBS made some moves earlier, with shows saying this is their final season. The “Young Sheldon” producers say it was their idea to stop; the “Bob (Hearts) Abishola” people say it was CBS’.
Also in ts final seasons are s “Blue Bloods,” but with a difference: “Blue Bloods” already had a 22-episode commitment, so (after a summer break) it will end sometime next fall. The others will end in May, which leads us to:
