1) “Elsbeth” return, 9 and 10 p.m., CBS. This is Elsbeth at her best – all bright colors and bright smiles, clashing with dark-hued New Yorkers. That peaks in the first hour, with Linda Lavin, 86, as a despotic co-op head. Soon, Elsbeth is probing board members and a realtor (Jane Krakowski). It’s a clever hour, followed by one with the star of the “Lavish Ladies” reality show found dead.
2) “Young Sheldon” return, 8 p.m., CBS. After a two-week basketball break, TV’s top comedy is back and focusing on its best story: Next week brings the wedding of Georgie and Mandy; tonight, their baby’s baptism sparks a battle of the grandmothers. That’s followed by the return of “Ghosts,” with Trevor’s scheming brother arriving.
3) “9-1-1,” 8 p.m., ABC. Life gets complicated for Althea (Angela Bassett). She’s just back from a near-drowning in the three-part season-opener; now she finds that her son is in trouble with the law. That’s in the show’s 100th episode, which includes a rescue involving a place that’s like the mansion for ABC’s “The Bachelor.”
4) Movies. Freeform has some animated fun, including “Sing” (2016) at 4:30 p.m. and “Aladdin” (1992) at . This is also a terrific night for other past hits. Catch “Annie all” (1977) and “Diner” (1982) at 8 and 10 p.m. ET, or “Moonstruck” (1987) and “The Big Chill” (1983), at 8 and 9:45 p.m. on MGM+.
5) “Beyond Paradise” season-opener, Britbox. Let’s forgive the fact that tonight’s ending is kind of a downer, making you feel sorry for the killers. Still, “Beyond Paradise” has great characters – led by Kris Marshall, who was Tom Parker in “Sanditon” – and gorgeous settings. And in the other five weekly episodes, you’ll be glad the crooks are caught.
