CBS has found another way to feast off its past hits.
Next season, it will have a comedy with Montana Jordan and Emily Osment (shown here) continuing their “Young Sheldon” roles as Georgie and Mandy.
That comes one day after the network cast a prequel, looking at the earlier years of Leroy Gibbs, whom Mark Harmon played in “CSI.”
This new one, however, is unusual. It’s a spin-off to a spin-off and a sequel to a prequel.
“The Big Bang Theory” came first, followed by a show that focuses on one of its characters (Sheldon Cooper) as a boy-genius in small-town Texas. But the show added depth when his older brother Georgie learned that his girlfriend Mandy was pregnant.
At the time, he was 17 and lying about his age; she was 28 and furious. They broke up, had their daughter, and are now engaged; in perhaps the biggest surprise, he turned out to be a decent guy.
Osment, 31, is a show-business pro who has been a regular in a half-dozen other shows, going back to “Hannah Montana.” Her brother Haley received an Oscar nomination for “The Sixth Sense.”
But Jordan – who turns 21 on Friday (March 8) – arrived as a newcomer … bringing a real Texas accent that some of the Northerners in the show hoped to match.
Good news: Sheldon’s brother gets a spin-off
