1) “Elsbeth” debut, 10 p.m. Thursday, CBS. Elsbeth Tascioni has been an occasional delight. A lawyer with a sharp mind and a quirky soul, she did 19 episodes of “The Good Wife” and its spin-off, spread over 12 years, bringing an Emmy for Carrie Preston. Now she moves to New York (show here) and gets a weekly mystery; in this fun opener, she probes a theater program led by Stephen Moyer of “True Blood.”
2) “The Voice” season-opener, 8-9:30 p.m. today and Tuesday, NBC. The 25th season starts with only one coach who’s ever had a champion. That’s John Legend, with one winner in eight editions; It’s the second try for Reba McEntire and Chance the Rapper and the first for the country duo of Dan + Shea. After this week, the show reverts to 8-10 p.m. Mondays and 9-10 p.m. Tuesdays.
3) “Deal or No Deal Island” debut, 9:30-11 p.m. today, NBC; rerunning Tuesday. The flimsy “Deal” has been turned into a sort of “Survivor” clone – complete with “Boston Rob” (from many “Survivor” editions) as a contestants. Now there’s a handsome host (Joe Manganiello) and wild stunts (starting with a mud bog). Players are merely building a pot, that only one will win, “Survivor”-style.
4) “Survivor” season-opener, 8-10 p.m. Wednesday, CBS. Now the real “Survivor” returns, with a diverse batch of contestants. That includes natives of India, Guyana and Hong Kong. It ranges from a slot-machine salesman, 22, to a parenting coach, 48. It has an actor, an artist and a musician; it also has a science teacher, an aerospace technician, a software engineer and a tech analyst.
5) “The Regime” opener, 9 p.m. Sunday, HBO. A reclusive despot clings to power, jailing the handsome leader of the opposition. That might sound like current events, but it’s a six-part mini-series from some skilled people. Oscar-winner Kate Winslet plays the despot, with Oscar nominee (“The Queen,” “The Grifters”) Stephen Frears directing and Hugh Grant as the opposition leader.
6) “America’s Most Wanted” and “TMZ Investigates” season-finales, 8 and 9 p.m. today, Fox. Next Monday, Fox brings back “MasterChef Junior” and “So You Think You Can Dance.” First, it has one more round of “AMW,” which recently helped catch its 1,192nd suspect, an alleged sexual predator. Then “TMZ” spends its final hour looking at the romance of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
7) “Good Trouble,” 10 p.m. Tuesday, Freeform.. A week from the finale of an excellent series, Mariana is overloaded with dilemmas and attractive guys. She’s helping Joaquin try to expose a cult leader; she’s also co-CEO with Evan, whose near-death left him unable to remember their romance. There’s more here (including so-so show-business plots), peaking with big romantic moments.
8) “Shogun” opener, 10 and 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, FX; then Hulu. James Clavell’s novel (based loosely on real events) had an English sailor shipwrecked in Japan in 1600. It became a 1980 mini-series with Richard Chamberlain, now gets a 10-part remake. It’s a powerfully cinematic epic, sprawling across land and sea. Still, the opener is a tough ride – dark and brutal, with tangled complexities..
9) “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin,” Friday, Apple TV+. Three centuries ago, the real Turpin was a butcher, poacher, horse thief and highway robber. This fiction has him as blustery, self-centered and fun, in a Monty Python way. Another streamer, Netflix, is busy – on Thursday, the second season of “The Tourist,” an action-adventure; on Friday, Adam Sandler in a drama movie, “Spaceman.”
10) “I Am Jackie O,” 7-9 p.m. Sunday, CW. “So many of my boyfriends are dumber,” she wrote in a letter. “It’s a curse for a woman to be bright.” Then came Jack Kennedy, who matched her in intellect and upbringing. She campaigned for him in Spanish and Italian … then hid behind an image of wispy-voiced blandness. This film also views her widow agony (“the edge of sanity,” a cousin says) and revival.
