1) “The Grio Awards,” 8-10 p.m., CBS. This aired on Thanksgiving weekend, when viewers were scarce; now it gets a second chance. There’s music (Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones (shown here), Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, Boyz II Men) plus awards for Black icons – Denzel Washington, Mariah Carey, Eddie Murphy. Misty Copeland, Al Sharpton and more. Sheryl Underwood and Roy Wood Jr. host.
2) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. It’s been a big year for Ayo Edebiri, with best-supportiing actress awards from the Emmys, the Golden Globes and the Critic Choice awards. Those are for “The Bear”; now Edebiri 28, has her first “SNL” stop, with Jennifer Lopez, 54, as music guest.
3) Basketball. The best match-up might be the one with Tennessee (ranked No. 5) and Kentucky (No. 10), at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN. But there’s a lot more, including Syracuse-Nevada, Las Vegas (7:45, CW), plus women (Iowa, ranked No. 3, and Maryland, 8 p.m., Fox) and the pros (Lakers-Knicks, 8:30, ABC).
4) “In the Heat of the Night,” 8 p.m. ET, Turner Classic Movies. Norman Jewison, who died Jan. 20 at 97, made lots of great movies, but this was the best. Two gifted actors, Sidney Poiitier and Rod Steiger, collided as a Philadelphia police detective and a bigoted Southern sheriff. The result won the Oscar for best picture, plus ones for Steiger, the script, the sound and the editing.
5) More movies. You can choose your Ryan Reynolds film, with the delightful “Free Guy” (2021) at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on FX and the OK “Proposal” (2009) at 6:35 on Freeform. Or catch Schwarzenegger movies all day on Sundance, including the Conan ones at 2:15 and 4:45 and “Terminator 2” at 7:15. Or at 8, catch “The Fugitive” (1993) on AMC or “Crocodile Dundee” (1986) on IFC.
