For some fans of at-home movies, the Oscar nominations were neatly timed.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” reached Apple TV+ on Jan. 12. Eleven days later, it got 10 Academy Award nominations, including best picture.
Others best-picture nominees arrive soon. “Past Lives” reaches Paramount+ on Feb. 2; “Oppenheimer” (shown here) – the leader, with 13 nominations – is on Peacock two weeks later.
And some have been streaming for a while. It’s “Barbie” on Max, “Maestro” on Netflix, “The Holdovers” on Peacock. Netflix also has films with nominations for actors (“Nyad,” “Rustin”) and original script (“May December”).
That still leaves some nominees in movie theaters – where movies belong. We’ll start our list there. This includes the 10 best-picture nominees, plus the few others that drew nods for an actor or script:
— IN THEATERS (and/or being sold video-on-demand): “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Poor Things,” “Zone of Interest.” Also, “The Color Purple” (a supporting actress nomination).
— NETFLIX: “Maestro.” Also, “Rustin” (actor), “Nyad” (actress, supporting actress), “May December” (script).
— PEACOCK: “The Holdovers”; “Oppenheimer” arrives Feb. 16.
— APPLE TV+: “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
— MAX: “Barbie.”
— PARAMOUNT+: “Past Lives” arrives Feb. 2.
