When does the season start? Here’s an update

For TV viewers, the long wait is now ending … slowly. Networks are getting their post-strike seasons in place.
NBC is doing it quite quickly — two comedies (“Extended Family” and “Night Court,” shown here) on Dec. 23, the return of “Transplant” on Dec. 28, then an “America’s Got Talent” spin-off and the “Magnum” finale the next week.
CBS is in less of a hurry; it will start almost everything in the week after it airs the Feb. 11 Super Bowl. Others are in between, with arrivals ranging from early January to mid-March.

This covers the five big commercial broadcast networks and PBS’ Sunday dramas. It doesn’t include cable or streaming networks, which have had a steady pipeline. Itincludes new shows, season-openers and shows returning from winter breaks, but not ones that never stopped. All of this is subject to change and several shows haven’t yet been scheduled.

BEFORE THE SUPER BOWL
— Dec. 23: “Extended Family” debut, NBC. Opener is about 8 p.m. ET, after football; then 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Jan. 2. Jon Cryer navigates life with his ex-wife and her new guy.

— Jan. 3: “We Are Family” debut, Fox; 9 p.m. Wednesdays. Panel tries to guess whom the singer is related to.
— Jan. 3: “Magnum P.I.” returns, NBC, but only for one night; last new episodes are 9 and 10 p.m.
