1) “Primetime Hoops” opener, 7 and 9 p.m. ET, Fox. These days, Fox focuses heavily on live events – wrestling on Fridays, pro football on Sunday afternoons and now its new “Hoops” format each Saturday. That starts with UCLA (shown here) at Villanova and then Notre Dame at Marquette. Earlier, there’s Syracuse-Georgetown at 11:30 a.m. and Alabama-Purdue at 1:30 p.m. There’s more on cable, plus the final game of the pros’ tournament, at 8:30 on ABC.
2) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Adam Driver hosts, with Olivia Rodrigo as music guest. It’s her second time and his fourth; he’s drawn strong reviews for the “Ferrari” movie, which reaches theaters on Christmas Day.
3) “Funny You Should Ask,” 8-10 p.m., CBS. The network had originally promised “A Merry Soulful Christmas,” from Byron Allen, the comedian-turned-producer. Now, instead, it has four new episodes of this syndicated game show, which is another Allen production. The games will include Billy Gardell, Sheryl Underwood, Jon Lovitz, Whitney Cummings, Adam Carolla, Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Ross, Natasha Leggero, Jamie Kennedy and Allen.
4) “Christmas on Cherry Lane,” 8 p.m., Hallmark. After seven “Good Witch” seasons, Catherine Bell and James Denton re-unite for this movie, about three couples at turning points. Also at 8, Lifetime has “A Cowboy Christmas Romance”; Lexie (Jana Kramer, who’s also a country singer) returns home to talk a cowboy into selling his land. At 8 p.m. ET, Great American Family has dueling real-estate folks in “Meet Me Under the Mistletoe.”
5) ALSO: A week before the start of the bowl-game surge, there’s only one footbasll game, but it’s a classic – Army and Navy (each with a 5-6 record) at 3 p.m. ET on CBS. At 8 p.m., NBC has a couple so-so animated specials, “Shrek the Halls” and “Trolls Holiday in Harmony.” TBS has the superb “Charlie ad the Chocolate Factory” (2005) at 8, the original “Willy Wonka” (1971) at 10:30 and the great “Wizard of Oz” (1939) at 12:30 a.m.
